How much do movers cost?
If you’ve never used movers before, you might not have any idea what to expect in terms of cost. Local moves (55 miles or less) are all hourly so the final cost will depend on the crew size and total amount of time it will take. The biggest factors to determine this are: amount of items to be moved, distance from items to load area, and disassembly requirements. How well things are packed can make a big difference as well. We’ve had quick apartment moves as low as $400, and have moved huge homes over a 2 day process for upwards of $3000. The majority of moves use 3-6 hours of time to load and unload, plus time it takes to travel to/from our lot and in between your locations.
Example: if a 2 bedroom apartment took 15 minutes to travel to pickup, 2hrs to load, 15 minutes to the drop off, 1.5 hours to unload, then .5hrs to return, that would be a total 4.5 hours. If we are using a 3 person crew, the total would then be $580.50.
Do you do moves over 55 miles?
We do! We go all over Western Washington, but these moves are considered long distance and we're required to bill based on weight instead of by the hour.
How do I get an estimate?
Send your info over on the “request a quote” section. We’ll first check availability and then we need to get your inventory and some information about the locations (distance to parking, assembly requirements, etc). Once we have that, we can estimate a total cost.
What size crew do you think I would need?
This is primarily based on the your inventory in terms of items and cubic feet, but other factors play a role as well to determine most efficient crew size for your move. Though, here’s what is most common:
2 person crew- Studio apartments & 1 bedrooms, or larger with minimal items.
3 person crew- Two bedroom apartment or sm -med house (should fit in one 26' truck)
4/5 person crew- If we're going to use more than one truck, that's when we'll need a 4 or 5 person crew.
How accurate are the estimates?
The more info we have about your move, the more accurate they are. Our goal is to have 10% or less variation from the estimated time. If we have all the information and the inventory list is accurate then we have above 92% accuracy of being on target.
Example: If a move was estimated to take 5 hours, 10% of that is half hour and so if the move took between 4.5 and 5.5 hours, we’d be in our target.
Variables that cause delay are often out of our control, such as finding stripped screws during disassembly, items not fitting through doorways, etc. Sometimes the crew just kills it and gets done super early because they’re amazing. We continue to monitor our number and look for ways to improve accuracy. You will never be charged more than 25% above any estimate, unless additional work is requested on move day in which case a supplemental estimate will be needed.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Basically everything! Cash, check, credit, venmo, paypall, etc. We do offer discounted cash rates!
Are there things you don’t move?
We don’t move explosives or flammable materials, dangerous goods, or property liable to damage our equipment or trucks.
What happens if one of my items gets damaged?
This depends on the damage and loss coverage that you select. We provide basic coverage at no cost to our customers, at a reimbursement rate of 60 cents per pound. If you choose to purchase additional coverage we will repair the damage to your satisfaction, reimburse you for the replacement cost, or replace the damaged articles.
How much do I tip the movers?
Whatever you like! Our crew will be appreciative of any tips given. Generally we see around $50 per person on small moves and $100 - $150 per person on large moves.
Are there other fees besides the hourly rates?
Mostly everything is included in our hourly rates! The exceptions are: overtime, extra stops in some cases, and disposal fees. Otherwise there are no extra charges; not for stairs, disassembly, etc. Not even tax!
What do you mean when you say you will work with our budget?
The rates for local moves are hourly, so we have many creative ways to get the time (and cost) down. If you’re working with a set budget, let us know and we’ll find a way to work with it.
How long in advance do I need to book?
As soon as possible! There is no set requirement but availability becomes limited if you’re looking to move in under 3 weeks. We recommend booking movers right away if you know your move date.
What circumstances affect how long my move will take?
There are so many things that can make a move go faster or longer, here are the common ones: number of items to be moved, how well items are prepared, distance from items to load zone, location of pick up and drop offs, weather, traffic, and disassembly/assembly requirements.
What happens if I book and then need to change my move day?
We don’t charge any fee for this and we’re happy to change your day based on availability!
